Product DescriptionVisio is a vector drawing program that has been available for many years, originally developed by the ShapeWare Corporation that soon changed their name to the Visio Corporation, and now continued as a Microsoft component. The Visio group was added as a new division of Microsoft's Business Productivity Group, and Visio is now fully integrated into Microsoft's Office 2000 suite of applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.)
Enterprise Edition Features
- The Enterprise Edition allows information systems managers to map out and visually manage their complex computer network, including thousands of built-in shapes that look like the various types of workstation and other computer equipment that may be connected to a network.
- Visio Enterprise contains many of the basic shape sets in the Standard and Professional editions, but in addition, it has additional networking and telecommunication shapes, many targeted for network products. Many of these shapes come with pre-created fields that already include information such as model names, product descriptions, and part numbers.
- Visio 2000 Enterprise Edition makes it very easy to assemble industry-standard diagrams, and to discover and document layer 2, layer 3, and frame relay environments. The Discovery Wizard lets you determine how much or how little of your network is discovered.
- You can automatically create hyperlinked networked diagrams using the AutoLayout feature. You can also document and diagram LDAP compliant directory services, Microsoft Active Directory and Novell Directory Services, and document existing directory trees using import and export tools.
- Other features include reverse engineering databases, merging multiple diagrams into a single database model using projects, automatically generate database schemas after capturing business rules using Object Role Modeling, and forward engineer databases from conceptual to logical to physical schemas.
- Users can document the entire software development process using any UML 1.2 diagram type, reverse engineer code into UML models from Microsoft Visual Basic, Visual C++, and Visual J++, generate code skeletons from UML models into Visual Basic, C++ and Java, and create reports from UML static structure, activity, and deployment diagrams.
- Basic diagram-only data flow diagramming can be created, as well as model-based data flow diagramming. In addition, you can create high level, conceptual diagrams of Web sites, generate maps of existing Web sites, and troubleshoot errors and missing hyperlinks for existing sites.
- A full complement of business diagramming tools can be used to manage IT projects, including process flowcharts, organization charts, PERT charts, Gantt charts, presentation graphics, calendars, maps, and office layouts.
