What is Microsoft Open Licensing Program?
Microsoft Open Licensing Program was designed for small to midsized organizations to purchase Microsoft software at discount prices with a minimum initial purchase of five software licenses. Benefits of Open License include, discounts off the retail price of software, the ability to track and manage licenses by using online tools, and the rights to create a standard image and deploy it on multiple machines, and rights to transfer licenses from one machine to another. Acquiring additional software products through Open License may be made in any quantity, at any time during a two-year period, giving customers the flexibility to deploy what they want when they want it.
Can I Order Open Licensing?
Microsoft Open License is available for Corporate, Academic, Government, Charity.
Open License for Academic Program: Designs for educational institutions of all sizes and provide qualifying academic organizations a special, single-tier price level. Academic Open provides an easy way to acquire and administer multiple copies of software and receive license confirmations quickly and conveniently.
Open License for Government Program: Provides qualifying government organizations (state, local, regional, and federal government agencies) with a special, single-tier price level.

What is the Minimum Requirements?
Minimum initial purchase of any combination of five licenses or one server processor license (a license covered by Software Assurance counts as two licenses). SBS, SQL 1 Processor License, MSDN , CRM qualify as quantity 5 or more on their own. All licenses are downgradeable to previous versions.
The reorder minimum is one license throughout the license-agreement term. Name of the organization is required for issuing the licenses.
What is Software Assurance?
You have an option to purchase your licenses with Software Assurance (SA) or without. Software Assurance is a maintenance offer which support customers throughout the software lifecycle as they plan, deploy, use, maintain, and transition the software. It encompasses more features like technology, support, and services that extend the value of your investment, assist with productivity, minimized downtime, and reduced costs. Software Assurance is available at the time of license acquisition (License & Software Assurance).
What about the Media?
The Open License program does not include media kits. Customers can acquire media separately, for a fee. After receiving the soft licenses by email, customers can also download licensed products for no additional charge at the Microsoft eOpen https://eopen.microsoft.com/EN/default.asp License Authorization and Agreement Numbers is required before downloading the fulfillment media.

How about Reordering?
If you need to purchase additional licenses, there are with no minimum requirements for reordering as long as your existing licenses are within a two-year team. When reordering your license(s) online, please provide us your License Agreement Numbers.
What is Microsoft eOpen?
The Microsoft eOpen Tool is used to access agreement, license, and benefit information for Open License. It provides:
  • Online access to the license agreement and Product Use Rights (PUR);
  • Easier software asset management with easy access to transaction history, including acquisitions, reorders, and returns;
  • Access to Volume License Keys;
  • Download fulfillment media;
  • Software Assurance benefits viewing and management.
When Microsoft accepts and Open License order, the authorization number and license number are created and posted to eOpen within 24 hours, reflecting the updated license status.  The customer receives and e-mail message when an initial order is processed.  Customers need their authorization number, license number, and a Microsoft Live ID or passport to access eOpen at https://eopen.microsoft.com/EN/default.asp.
